Rachel Caine's latest entry into the Morganville Vampires series is Bite Club, another enthralling tale of Claire Danvers and the melange of human and vampires that make up the population of Morganville, Texas. Claire and her roommates get entangled in the violent world of extreme fighting when Shane discovers an outlet for the rage that he normally suppresses. The chilling discovery that a vampire is teaching humans how to fight against vampires and encouraging hostilities leads Claire into an increasingly chaotic situation that threatens her relationship with Shane and may risk his very life. Claire tries to mobilize her resources but gets a frightening warning from young psychic Miranda and is forced to depend on erratic Myrnin and the disembodied Frank Collins in her battle to save her friends' lives as the conflict between the vampires and humans reaches a flashpoint. A brief cameo by the disturbingly vicious trio of Monica Morrell and sidekicks gives a glimpse into the world that Miranda occupies while Shane narrates the descent into his own private hell that isolates him from those he loves and cares for. Another vampire war may be in the making and Claire and her allies may not be able to prevent it from destroying Morganville forever.
Another mesmerizing addition to a very inventive paranormal series. Claire is not afraid to be daring when it comes to those that she loves and she discovers that she is willing to stand up to almost anyone no matter what the consequences are. Unfortunately, dreams do not necessarily come true for those who live in Morganville and nobody knows that better than Claire and her roommates who prove this in every book of the series. Shane's narration was somewhat jarring as it has not been a common occurrence thus far but it does give some insight into his actions. A nice bit of levity provided by Myrnin's version of mail and his disturbing method of driving. A delightfully creepy and exciting episode of Morganville life (or death).
After discovering that vampires populate her town, college student Claire Danvers knows that the undead just want to live their lives. But someone else wants them to get ready to rumble.
There's a new extreme sport getting picked up on the Internet: bare- knuckle fights pitting captured vampires against each other-or humans. Tracking the remote signal leads Claire- accompanied by her friends and frenemies-to discover that what started as an online brawl will soon threaten everyone in Morganville...
