I loved this story and couldn’t put it down. Poor ten-year-old Nikki Landry had a tough time keeping friends because her family constantly moved around the bayou in order for her father to be able to crab in the most ideal spots. In doing this, whatever friends she had she’d lose because there was no way for them to keep in touch. During the latest move, Nikki was finally able to make some friends and enjoy their company. But that was the least of her worries. You see, there’s a legend wrapped around an island that’s not too far from where her family had docked their houseboat. Everyday Nikki would not only hear strange howling noises coming from the direction of this mysterious island, but she would feel as if someone or something was staring at her. It unnerved her so much so that she wanted to find out about the legend of Ghost Dog Island and see if her and her friends could find some answers as to why it seemed everyone was so tight lipped about the island. But as she’s investigating the legend, her dog, Snooper, goes missing. This story was jam packed with mystery and adventure and I loved the author’s storytelling style. Not to mention, there were hand-drawn pictures, done by the author herself, which just added the cherry on the top for me while reading this novel. Well done, Ms. Monette!
Nikki Landry has to adjust to yet another move around the Louisiana bayou because her family is moving again in their houseboat so her father can find some new crabbing spots since he’s a fisherman. As they settle in, she begins hearing strange noises, almost howling-like that just unnerve her. At first she thinks it’s nothing, but once her mother hears it too, she knows something isn’t right with the situation. As she makes some new friends, they begin an adventure to find out exactly what caused the legend of Ghost Dog Island in the first place. This legend hits closer to home than Nikki could ever imagine when her beloved beagle, Snooper, goes missing. Now her and her friends must get down to the bottom of this legend before something happens to her four-legged best friend. Do Nikki and her friends find out the legend of Ghost Dog Island? Does she ever find Snooper again?
