Mr. Crilley has created a pleasant steampunk mystery that kept me reading until the end. Like other books in the steampunk genre this book has the prerequisites of steam powered technology and the background setting of Victorian England along with its code of behavior such as a unmarried woman must live with a male family member who controls her money unless the woman wants to be labeled an eccentric who will never marry in society. I had a few problems with this book: First, it drags in middle of the tale when the two main characters are on an airborne ship flying to Egypt. The action does, however, pick up speed again near the end of the book.
Last, the author seems to be trying to create a romance between the two main characters. However, there seems to be no romantic “sparks” between the two. They do have a romantic moment at the end of the story that might lead into something more if another book in the series is written.
Sebastian Tweed and Nightingale are back and up to their old game of foiling criminal masterminds! The Queen has put them under the care of two British spies, Chase and Temple, who want them to stay hidden and leave the catching of criminals to adults. However, Tweed and Nightgale are still trying to find out what happen to Octavia’s mother after she was taken from the Ministry prison by a man named Wilberforce, they run into two evil twins that want to destroy the Great Britain by using machines created by Nicholas Tesla. Can they stop them before it’s too late?
Steampunk Sherlock Holmes meets The X-Files with a dash of romantic tension and a large dose of adventure.
When Nikola Tesla is murdered and blueprints for his super weapons are stolen, Tweed and Nightingale are drawn into a global cat and mouse chase with his killers. What's more, it seems that the people who shot Nikola Tesla are the same people responsible for Octavia's mother's disappearance. As the two cases intertwine, Tweed and Nightingale's investigations lead them to a murdered archeologist and a secret society called The Hermetic Order of Osiris. Fleeing the cult's wrath, they go undercover on the luxury airship, The Albion, setting out on her maiden voyage to Tutankhamen's View, a five star hotel built in the hollowed-out and refurbished Great Pyramid of Giza.
In Egypt, the duo begin to unravel the terrible truth behind Tesla's death, a secret so earth-shattering that if revealed it would mean rewriting the entire history of the world. But if the cult's plans aren't stopped, Britain may lose the future.
