Jennifer Estep transports readers into a new spinoff series in "Spartan Heart". It all began with the Mythos Academy series and book one "Touch of Frost". In that book we met Gwen Frost and followed her adventures against mythical creatures and power hungry villains. I loved that book and was sad to see that series end. Lucky for us Jennifer Estep has picked up the Mythos sword and has more stories for us.
In this spin off series we follow Gwen's cousin Rory Forseti as she too fights the good fight against Reapers. Luckily Rory is a Spartan and she knows how to use any object as a weapon. Estep adds in a few hot guys and lots of fighting which moves the story along very nicely. There is never a dull moment when you're looking over your shoulder and trying to figure out the enemies next steps.
I loved Rory and all that she's endured and is currently going through. She's had some major family skeletons come out of the closet and has had to deal with all the fall out. It's hard, but she puts one foot in front of her and pushes forward. There are great things in store for Rory if only she takes up the mantle and becomes the hero who is insider her.
I encourage you to read "Spartan Heart" after you read the starter series that begins with "Touch of Frost". I feel that "Spartan Heart" doesn't stand alone. You need all the wonderful world building and story arc from the prior books.
New school year, same old problems . . .
At Mythos Academy, everyone knows exactly who I am: Rory Forseti, Spartan girl and the daughter of Reapers.
Even though I fought alongside my cousin Gwen Frost to save the mythological world from Loki and his evil Reapers of Chaos, I’m still the most hated girl at the academy because of all the horrible things my parents did. I had hoped that this school year would be different, but the other kids just won’t let me forget about my parents.
But something strange is going on at the Colorado academy. First, I run into a Viking guy who dislikes me more than most. Then I notice some odd artifacts in the Library of Antiquities. And worst of all, I start hearing rumors about a new group of Reapers who can summon mythological monsters.
I might be the most hated girl at Mythos Academy, but I’m also the only one who can save it . . .
