Shark and Dolphin Swimming #Travel
Paige Tyler is stopping over to share a bit about herself. Plus you get to armchair travel to Grand Gayman, Bahamas, Mexico, and Hawaii.
When I first saw this topic, I wasn’t sure what to write. I’ve never considered myself the adventurous type. In fact, when confronted with too much adrenaline, my first instinct is to vapor lock. Yeah, I freeze like a bunny. But then I talked to my hubby about the subject and he has a completely different perspective on the whole thing. In his mind, I’m like an action-adventure heroine in the comic books when it comes to doing things in and on the water.
He pointed out that we’ve gone swimming with the stingrays in Grand Cayman, even though the waves were so rough they practically knocked me off my feet every ten seconds. But it was worth it to get up close and personal with them. I even got to kiss one! Don’t know why, but hubby has no interest in smooching a stingray. Crazy, huh?
Then there was the excursion into super deep, freezing cold water in the Caymans so we could swim with dolphins. They’re so cool I didn’t even care that I was in water way over my head. And yeah, I got to kiss the dolphin too!
Kayaking against the current in a mangrove swamp in the Bahamas for a chance to see conch and starfish? Check, been there, done that. Paddle boarding in Costa Maya so I could see sea turtles? Yup, did that.
Oh, and we’ve also gone helmet diving in Cozumel. If you’re not familiar with it, imagine putting a round fish bowl on your head with a handle on the top, then descending about twenty feet to the ocean floor, all the while breathing in air from an attached hose connected to the surface. It might sound a little scary, but it’s so much fun. I even got to pet some adorable fish while underwater.
Probably the most insane thing I’ve done in my hunt for cute and cuddlies was when we did a shark cage dive in Hawaii. Yes, I was nervous as heck (and freezing to boot!), but getting a chance to swim with black tip sharks made it all worthwhile, even if my lips were blue by the time we climbed out of the water. And before you ask, nope, I didn’t kiss any sharks!
So, I guess my hubby is right. Maybe I’m more into adventure than I thought. I seriously love the water, and if there are cute, cuddly sea critters involved, even better. Then again, I suppose it’s all a matter of what you consider an adventure. If you ask me to get on the second level of a step stool, the answer would be no way! But suggest that I can get close to an animal, and I’ll jump into freezing water with the sharks!
