Check Out Juno Rushdan's Writing Place, Author of Nothing to Fear
My office is the one room in the house that everyone respects. Thankfully. Every other place in the house is fair game for toys, shoes, mail, you name it.
I find I’m more productive and less distracted when my desk is clean and free of clutter. I keep a pad nearby to jostle down to-do items that pop into my head as I’m working to take care of later. I do all my research online unless I need to see a location in person, which can often affect how I write scene. So, I don’t have stacks of research in my office.
That’s not to say that I don’t have a spot for my post-it note plotting madness. I most certainly do, but it’s controlled chaos. Otherwise I would lose my mind. My bookcase may not seem organized, but I have a system and it’s simple. All the kiddie books are kept where my five and seven-year-old can reach them.
My window brings in lots of natural light and the scenery uplifts me all four seasons. My husband bought the crape myrtles and the limelight hydrangea tree as an anniversary gift because he knows how much I love flowers and wanted to add some color to my view. Yes, he’s a keeper.
For romantic inspiration, I have a picture of Claudel’s The Waltz sculpture hanging up. I bought it at the Rodin Museum in Paris with my husband while we were dating. Whenever I look at it, I remember what it feels like to fall in love.
I also have my trusty sidekick, Bella, to keep me company.
This solitary business feels a little less lonely with her around.
