My Writing Place
Like most writers, I write all over the place—on the sofa, in my car, at the kitchen table. I don’t have an office as such, but I do have a writing corner that is very important to me. See left.
My desk is quite tiny but I love it. It has curved legs and a French boudoir feel to it. The chair I bought for two pounds from a car boot sale. I sanded it down and painted it grey. I probably should have painted it white to match the desk but grey is one of my favourite colours. When I’m writing a novel, my notice board has post it notes and plot plans pinned onto it, but at the moment I’m being all maverick so it just has a few pictures to inspire me. My son’s drawings, my first book cover, some postcards… The other trinkets are mementos I’ve picked up over the years. I have a photo of me and my childhood cat, Honey, a tiny Shakespearean bust, and a small Romeo and Juliet statue I got in Verona. Of course, I also have my notebooks and laptop and stationary things. I’ve only very recently brought myself bookcases. Before them, my books were all over the place. Now I have all of my books on display, and yes they are categorised. I’m one of those people, haha.
