Into Aether

The Trinity Key Trilogy, #1

"Into Aether" pulled me in from the first chapter. I really enjoyed following Theodora (Theo) on her fantasy adventure. She's grown up in Colorado and has recently lost her father. Then her mother goes missing while off on a trip. We soon find out that her mom did not go on a business trip for the university she works with but is in a totally different place. Clues are given to Theo that help her on her way to finding her mom. I loved how the author made us travel along with Theo as clues were given. We got to feel how out of her element she was and how intrigued she was. We got to experience these new places with her.

Almost from the beginning of the book we have a sense that Theo's on edge and quickly she's on the run with her aunt. They jet off to a very foreign place and Theo's eyes are really opened. She meets new people and experiences new modes of transportation. That part of the book was totally fun.

As a side character Theo's aunt was intriguing. She flirts with Joe who is from Aether. She also has a cat that is no friend to Theo. I felt the aunt fell for Joe a bit quickly. But it all played into the story well.

I do feel that the middle of the book could have been a bit better. It got a bit too slow for me and not as exciting as the beginning and end. That middle part needed a bit more action to lift it up.

This is the first book in a series and I look forward to seeing where the series goes next. The magic has just begun.
