Recent Release: Fated
Describe your current release in two sentences?
Sixteen-year-old Daire Santos can navigate between the worlds of the living and dead. When she moves to Enchantment, New Mexico and meets the boy from her dreams, she’ll be forced to discover if he’s her fated one... or if he’s the enemy she’s destined to destroy.
Please describe your writing environment.
While I’m trying to get better at writing on the road, I still prefer working in my home office. We moved to our new house about a year and a half ago, and the office was one of the first things that sold me on it. It’s got a big wooden desk, a comfy leather chair, built in book shelves, purple walls, art that inspires me, and a purple velvet chair where I work on my copy-edits.
What are you working on?
At the moment I’m working on MYSTIC, book 3 in my new series, THE SOUL SEEKERS, debuting with FATED on 05.22.12, followed by ECHO, MYSTIC, & HORIZON in 2012/13!
What do you feel blessed with?
I feel blessed to have a husband I love, a career that fulfills me, supportive family and friends, and good health.
What is your favorite TV show?
True Blood, Game of Thrones, and Dexter are on my permanent watch list!
What career fields have you worked in?
I was raised by a single mom and due to financial necessity have been paying my way since I was twelve. I’ve been a babysitter, a sales clerk, a secretary, a tour guide, a maid, a bartender, a hotel receptionist, a T-shirt painter, a flight attendant, and now, finally, a writer.
Where do you want to travel?
Everywhere! I love meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures. I hope to explore as much of the world as I can!
How was your road to publication? Have you every had to deal with rejection letters?
When I first started submitting my work I was so uninformed, I made every possible newbie mistake. This was back in 2001/2 when the Internet was still somewhat in its infancy, so the kind of information available now did not exist then. I was rejected by everyone I submitted to—and rightfully so! My book was not anywhere near ready for publication and neither was I. While those rejections certainly hurt, they also helped in immeasurable ways. They solidified my determination and made me work that much harder on improving my writing. It took two and a half years to land my first two-book deal with St. Martin’s Press, and I’ve been writing for them ever since.
Do you have a favorite time of the day? If so when and why
Lately, for reasons that remain completely inexplicable, I’ve been waking with the sunrise and I’m surprised to find how much I love it! It feels like a quiet, unexplored time that belongs just to me.
What is the one thing you do not want to live without?
If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?
Charlaine Harris’s SOOKIE STACKHOUSE series! Aw, to be Sookie for just one day . . . hopefully a day when someone is not trying to kill her!
Thanks so much for the interview!! I hope you enjoy reading THE SOUL SEEKERS books as much as I've enjoyed writing them!
Peace * Joy * Love
